The village of Martres-Tolosane is unusual in that it is circular in shape. It has many other architectural treasures, such as its keep, which houses the archaeological museum, its ramparts, its entrance gates, its medieval streets… Martres-Tolosane is also a maze of small, shady streets, lined with walls behind which you can see gardens bursting with flowers. In the centre, a series of restored medieval houses make up the Angonia Interpretation Centre (a space dedicated to the heritage of Martres and housing the Tourist Information Office of the Coeur de Garonne Tourist Office).
The Grand Presbytère, an exhibition hall dedicated to arts and crafts and contemporary art, is also located in the historic heart of the village and adds to the historical and cultural heritage of the Cité Artiste with exhibitions that change with the seasons. The Gallo-Roman remains, the Villa Chiragan, the fountain and the lake at Saint-Vidian are all part of the village’s heritage.
Events such as the Salon des Arts et du Feu and the fête de St-Vidian, with its battle re-enactment, take place in the village on the Sunday after Pentecost at La Trinité.
There are two châteaux in the village, Château ST-Roch and Château de Thèbe.
Martres-Tolosane’s exceptional heritage is embodied by its uninterrupted earthenware production since the 18th century.
Martres-Tolosane has inherited a rich cultural heritage. This heritage creates an identity and a strong attachment to their village.
