CHRISTINE FERRÉ / BEAUFORT

Portrait de territoire

It is through her work for the town of Beaufort that we discover Christine Ferré, a painter and sculptor. This artist, who has lived in Beaufort for some twenty years, made her art her main occupation in 2012 and is now a councillor. She sits on the culture committee.

Aware of her talents (already evident in a stained-glass window she created for the church), the Mayor of Beaufort, Mr Parédé, decided to entrust her with a mural project in the heart of the village. He gave Christine carte blanche to breathe new life and vibrancy into the town’s key buildings, which are being renovated one by one. In the courtyard of the old school, you can already admire a magnificent tree bathed in summer light, inspired by the book ‘Sophie’s World’. As you look more closely, you will see that Christine has brought great subtlety to the work by incorporating pages from the novel into the painting to create a sense of texture and depth.

Another, more prominent mural opposite evokes a dreamlike, ethereal world that serves as a reminder that Christine draws her inspiration from the imagination, creating a stylised figurative art form brimming with positive, infectious energy. However, as this mural project is situated in a public space, it was only natural to involve the village residents. So, when the warmer weather arrives in 2021, Christine will have the pleasure of guiding a group of volunteers in the creation and execution of a new mural to be painted on the old pediment next to the church. This lovely collaborative project will combine Christine’s painting technique with the participants’ creative flair and will be visible to everyone in the heart of the village.

In the meantime, Christine continues her work as a full-time artist, sharing her world and technical expertise through workshops at her studio and occasionally visiting schools.
