Mauran

mauran

Mauran is a small village situated between the small Pyrenees (the Piedmont) and the Garonne river, which runs along the northern edge of the village. The hills that surround the village to the south and east are wooded. From the top of these hills, the landscape is not lacking in a certain picturesqueness: you can see many villages and the Toulouse plain in the distance. You can see the ruined 13th-century Romanesque church of Saint-Martin, the remains of the 14th-century Montpezat feudal castle and the majestic Château du Village, built in 1805 and 1806 by a Parisian banker.

Mauran is the third Comminges faience-making village after Marignac-Laspeyre and Martres-Tolosane (late 18th to late 19th century). On the road near the Pouèges earthenware factory is a remarkable medieval keep. A graffiti engraved on stone dating from the Empire period can be seen on this building.
