Plagne

The commune of Plagne has yielded prehistoric remains from the Neolithic period, some of which are preserved in the Toulouse Museum. In 1303, the Lord of Aspet signed a parage contract with the Knights Templar to found a new walled town, with two-thirds of the revenues going to the Montsaunès Commandery.

It is a picturesque village in superb surroundings surrounded by wooded hills of chestnut, oak and beech.

In the 17th century, there were 17 families of potters, an activity that made Plagne a regional pottery centre until the mid-19th century. The commune lies at the top of an anticlinal clay “archaeological fold” and is watered by the Tounis and Saint-Antoine streams, tributaries of the Garonne.
