Rieumes

In the heart of the Savès, preserving its rural traditions and its openness to the regional metropolis, this serene town, neither suburb nor peasant, was very early on an active centre for fairs and markets. Rieumes was first a priory of the Abbey of Saint-Gilles, protected by the Count of Toulouse, then a fortified castelnau of the Counts of Comminges, and finally a royal bastide. Its name, already, evokes its trading vocation of Gallic origin “Rigo Magus” (the market on the spur).

There are a number of hiking trails around Rieumes, including the GR86. Visitors can enjoy the town centre with its covered market (one of which is listed), typical houses, brick mansions and the listed Saint-Gilles church with its 1854 organ by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, as well as the Notre-dame de Lormette chapel.

The Rieumes forest, the Tépacap adventure park and the Paradis farm are all popular activities with visitors and locals alike.
