La Grotte

A beautiful brick façade built in 1687, topped by two galleries, houses the oratory of Notre-Dame de Cazères. The so-called miraculous fountain is located in the left arcade under a stone lintel dated 1665. The central archway houses the statue of Notre-Dame, placed in an opening in the “souterrain”. This site is closely linked to local history, with Christians coming here to worship, particularly every 8 September to commemorate the end of a plague epidemic that decimated the town in 1629-1630. The nocturnal procession known as the 1630 vow leaves the grotto every year.
