Poids public

In 1881, a weighbridge was installed on the Boulevard du Nord. It was used to weigh large carts of wood, straw and large animals that were placed on the movable wooden platform. You paid a “fee” and in exchange received a ticket indicating the weight of the item weighed, the mechanism being housed in the adjacent premises. It even operated on Sundays. The people in charge of the weights were the “farmers”, who were always shopkeepers based opposite the scales. For decades, this was the Baleresque family (innkeepers and bakers).

As part of the renovation of the area around the town, Carole Delga (then deputy mayor of Martres-Tolosane) had the small building restored so that its colours would blend in perfectly with the old style of the district.
