Circuit Martin Guerre

1. With your back to the town hall, opposite the war memorial, turn right out of the village and continue straight ahead along the D83. At the first fork in the road, turn left downhill towards Sajas.

2. 500 m further on, leave the road and turn right onto the grassy path which, after crossing some fields, leads to a stream. Cross the 1st of 5 footbridges.

3. Follow the stream on your left. Continue straight ahead between the 2nd and 3rd footbridges.

4. After the 4th footbridge, turn left at the next junction to cross the 5th footbridge, which leads to an uphill path. Turn right at the next junction until you reach the D83.

5. Follow the road to the left as far as the village of Sajas, then turn right to pass the church (beautiful 13th-century bell tower and wall) and go around it.

6. Go down behind the church on the right, and follow the old path on the left. Keep to the right until you reach the D83.

7. Cross the D83 and continue along the track almost opposite. You will come to the D73, with its beautiful view of the Pyrenees (ridge road), and follow it for 1200 m to the crossroads.

8. Continue straight ahead on the D73 but leave it 300 m further on to turn left into the Bois du Bédiau. After 30 m, leave the track on your left and continue straight ahead. Go past the antenna on the right and continue straight ahead. Turn left at the crossroads. Join the GR86.

9. Turn right at the ‘Y’. Turn left at the next crossroads. Continue straight on past the next crossroads. Continue straight on past the small bridge (beware of the long, steep climb). Take the road on the left to reach the centre of the village with its 12th-century moat.
