Tribute Exhibition to mark the 20th anniversary of the Musée de la Faïence
From 26 May to 18 December, the town of Martres-Tolosane is adorned with curves and poetry. To mark two decades of the Musée de la Faïence, the council has chosen to spotlight an artist whose legacy remains indelibly etched in the hearts of the people of Martres: Jean-Louis Toutain.
An encounter etched in clay
Guest of honour at the Salon des Arts et du Feu in 2004 and again in 2007, Jean-Louis Toutain was not merely a talented sculptor; he was a friend of our town. He passed away prematurely in 2008, leaving us a vibrant artistic legacy, where clean lines meet the generosity of form.
This tribute exhibition is an invitation to rediscover his world, one of gentle, joyful and universal humanity.
A dialogue between sculpture and local craftsmanship
The exhibition’s itinerary reveals a unique facet of his work: his collaborative pieces. Testament to his close collaboration with the pottery makers of Martres-Tolosane, these works combine the artist’s modern style with the time-honoured techniques of our traditional crafts.
Visitors will be able to admire:
• The museum’s treasures: Pieces from the permanent collection and collaborations with the potters during the two ‘Salons des Arts et du Feu’ events.
• A living legacy: Works on loan from today’s potters, the guardians of this technical and artistic heritage.
