EXPOSITION ADÈLE GERVAISE ET ANAÏDE FONTAINE

Having originally trained in organismal biology, Adèle Gervaise views her ceramics as creatures that come to life in her hands through understated, unpretentious gestures. Protrusions and human sensory organs become points of physical and emotional connection. When filled with water, her pieces produce tremulous, dissonant sounds, creating an immersive listening experience. As the pieces rotate or tilt, the water displaces the air from their internal cavities, which escapes through whistles carved directly into the form.
Anaïde Fontaine’s work explores fictional imaginaries linked to the underworld and geological forces. Through ceramics, drawing and digital media, she unfolds a reverie of metamorphoses and the ceaseless changes in the state of matter. Scales become blurred, from a grain of sand to a mountain; human time and geological time merge into forms where unstable landscapes and the remains of sacred architecture absorb one another. This quest for the sublime sometimes veers towards the artificial, evoking certain fantasy or science-fiction settings.
