La cascade

The lower part of the former Hôtel SÉNAT by the waterfall was once a flour mill. This mill, built at the end of the 15th century, was taken over after the 1789 revolution by Mr FORT, miller at the seigniorial mill before the revolution and also purchaser of the seigniorial château. Later, the mill was bought and operated by the DE PAPUS family, owners of the Château de Soulancé in Martres-Tolosane, then by LAFORE, miller and timber merchant, and finally by SÉNAT, owner of the Hôtel du Midi.

At that time, the Hourride waterfall was impressive. It was reduced in height by two thirds when the bed of the stream was raised by the Labrioulette dam in the 1960s.
