Sandrine Verdier is a multi-faceted artist, an explorer of form and material. Following a distinguished career as a graphic designer and art teacher, she turned to sculpture, an art form that allows her to express her fascination with the human body with great intensity.
For several years now, she has been shaping clay figures, playing with volumes and textures, and experimenting with two types of firing: one traditional in a kiln, the other more unusual using linseed oil, which gives her works an organic and warm patina. She exhibits regularly, whether in galleries or at group exhibitions, notably in Montauban and the Occitanie region. Each exhibition is an opportunity for her to share a vision of the body that is both powerful and delicate, where the sculptural gesture interacts with the light.
Her studio, based in Lussan-Adeillac for nearly three years, is a veritable haven for creativity. Housed in a former village grocery shop, the space retains its old-world charm: walls steeped in history, an adjoining workshop, and even a wooden telephone box that seems to watch over her creations. The atmosphere is timeless, fostering concentration and inspiration.
Sandrine does not keep her knowledge to herself. She welcomes trainees for introductory days where they discover modelling techniques, the subtleties of drying, and the secrets of firing. She works with different clays, plays with their natural hues or enriches them with pigments, and applies patinas that reveal the reliefs. For her, drawing and technique are learnt through observing light and shadow, the very foundations of three-dimensionality.
